Every registered domain name has at least two Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain name to the servers of a particular website hosting company. In this way, you have got both your website and your emails managed by the same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there is a variety of other records, such as A and MX. The first one shows which server handles the site for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server deals with the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, any time you type a domain address in your Internet browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of a different provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain address. Having different records for the website and the e-mails means that you may have your site and your e-mails with 2 different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting account through our company and you want to move either your website or your e-mails to another service provider, it is going to take you literally simply 2 clicks to do it. Our Hepsia Control Panel provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard two, it won't take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you modify or set up is not going to take more than several hours and if needed, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that reveals how long a record will stay active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

With the Linux semi-dedicated hosting we offer, you'll have total control over the records of all domain addresses and subdomains that you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records every one of them has through the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting CP and editing any record requires only a couple of mouse clicks. If you choose to switch your web or e-mail hosting provider, you can edit the necessary record and point your domain to the other company for one of the services, while you still keep using the other one through us. You can also keep the main domain name here, while you edit the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you are changing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the default 2 we have, you could create them with ease and set a different priority for each and every one.
